Well I am back in Canada from Cambodia. It is good to be here, minus all the work I have to do on the house, like painting the ceiling with oil based killz for starters. So the other day I was visiting Amy’s granny at the nursing home here in Birch Hills. We were heading outside to the play area so the kids could play and I thought I heard Vida La Vida from Coldplay’s new album playing. As I walked to the exit door the music grew louder and louder and so I poked my head into a room and there it was. On the tv screen there was Coldplay playing Vida la Vida live at the BBC studios. Across from the tv was a man approx. 60+ years old crashed out on the bed watching. The funny thing is that in the room next door the same thing was happening, Coldplay on the tv and elderly person crashed out on his bed. It made me laugh. Anyway, to check out the song click here.
Sorry for not posting in a while, things got busy as we were closing up on out time in Cambodia and then we put all out attention of the girls, will write more regularly now.
Thanks

Today was a good day, aside from the fact that my youngest woke up at 5:30 in the bloody AM. We went into town today, and by town I mean the big city of 100,000 20 miles away. I had to go to the bathroom, or washroom as they call it out in this country so I brought Abby, our 2 year old with me. The room was pretty small and similarly disgusting. There was this old dude washing his hands and after he finished he reached over and gave a mint to Abby. OK, that is wrong. I mean it was wrapped, in a Northern Lights Casino wrapper, but it was still a mint given from an old stranger to my 2 year old. My response was polite as I told him that she is to young for mints. I took the mint and threw it out. So, other than that the day was pretty normal, aside from the fact that I am now a home owner here, that is weird.

There is a cafe in town, it is a great cafe with a cool look. They have local photography and art on the walls, and they sell fair trade coffee. It could almost fit in Seattle, but they don’t play music so there is this uncomfortable silence in the place. Anyway, the other day I went in there and asked if they could grind some of my Trader Joe’s sumatra blend as my grinder is somewhere buried under the rest of my stuff that is packed away back in Seattle. Jenny, the manager was totally cool about it so she proceeded to grind up the beans. I am going to bring her back some good coffee from Seattle next week when I go there.
This is kind of the long way of saying that I am still at my mother in laws house as we can’t get in our house yet and having good coffee makes it OK, not perfect and not ideal, but OK. Today we are going to meet with the lawyer in PA to sign papers for the house. Very exciting. I can’t wait to make some Trader Joe’s sumatra blend in my own house.

Well today was a good day. I drank some Sumatra fair trade coffee from Trader Joe’s and then hopped on line to get some work done for us to get situated here. Abby and I went for a walk, the sidewalks here suck so she tripped and fell down on her hands, good thing dad was there to carry her.
My father in law and I hooked up the wireless modem last night so I no longer have to steal from the lady across the street who’s internet is somewhat sketchy. I spent most of my day on the phone and on line trying to set up our phone out here. Canadian cel plans suck so I will probably hop on an international plan with Sprint or Verizon. I wish I could go with Cingular and keep the i-Phone, but no reception her.
So, needless to say there is stuff going on to keep me busy, but not sure how long that will last. I love trying to explain to people what I will be doing here. I just say that I am still working with the same non-profit (YWAM) and doing a lot of travel this fall. Finally we took Emma on a tour of her new school and then stopped by Grumpy’s to rent a movie and get a ring pop.

This blog is frequent posting of musings of my time in Saskatchewan. My family and I moved here yesterday after spending 9+ years in Seattle. We will be here for one year with the intent of connecting more with our families in Winnipeg and Saskatchewan as well as getting some vision and direction for the future. I hope to bring some light to small town living through these posts for myself and also for you. I am a bit nervous as to how things are going to go, but I do feel that this is the right move for our family. So, sit back and enjoy the stories, the pictures and the view of small town living from a big city boy.
The above picture was taken by me on my MacBook while driving through Saskatchewan.
